Named in the honor of jazz pianist Loonis McGlohon, McGlohon Theatre was converted into the performing arts building it is today in 1980 after taking over and restoring the First Baptist Church building. The ghosts that inhabit the theatre are thought to be from the church days, and have been heard roaming the halls and singing on the stage. It's hard to be surprised considering the theatre is located in Spirit Square.

  • Church goers still attending service?

Now, before I go into the supernatural side of this I should tell you two things... One, I'm sensitive enough to the supernatural to communicate without concentrating too hard so I usually know when something's up. And two, I'm a skeptic. As in unless I have proof that whatever's going on cannot be explained by worldly means, I dont consider it supernatural. That being said, read what follows with a grain of salt. So, I occasionally go to church at Elevation's Uptown location which is in the McGlohon Theater. While I'm not a regular attendee, I always feel different during the services there. I actually watched the online version once, and this was before hearing about it's the supernatural occurrences, but it just wasn't the same. I have always been somewhat disconnected from my feelings and emotions, so I originally thought that maybe it was God telling me I had found my place of worship... but the feeling faded after only a few services. This coupled with the fact that I most certainly felt SOMETHING spiritual during the service, leads me to believe that maybe those church goers still worship The Lord with us during this time. I believe them to be benevolent in nature, however, as it seems they simply wish to bring those still living closer to God. They will likely move on by themselves once they feel called to do so. But until then, I'm simply happy we can seat above what the normal capacity would allow; more worshipers are always welcome, after all!
