Cape Hatteras Lighthouse

The history of the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse dates back to 1797, where a Congressional decision led to $44,000 being devoted to the lighthouse's construction. Due to shoddy construction and alleged damage during the Civil War, a new lighthouse was constructed in 1870 and still stands today.

With such an extended history, the lighthouse has been the source of numerous ghost stories over the years, beginning with a previous light keeper's cat. The cat is black-and-white and quite large and supposedly runs past guests. In 1921, a ship named the Carroll A. Deering sank offshore, and despite all lifeboats being missing, not a single member of the crew was ever seen again. Additionally, a yellow raincoat-wearing spirit named Bob is said to haunt the lighthouse, his presence always being felt in some form
