Lees-McRae College

I attended LMC in the 1994-1996. If you go stand on the bridge across the Elk river near the waterfall on campus you can pick up energy to charge your charkras. As for hauntings the old WW1 VA hospital used to be a dorm. My female friends would always share stories of old soldiers or a female spirit. The founder Rev. Edgar Tufts haunts the college in a good way and he will encourage you to skip class and have fun in the mountains. Go to the Linville Gorge and camp on Table Rock you will see the Brown Mountain Lights if you go with enough frequency.

I didn't believe in paranormal activity or really pay any attention to the spirit world until I attended LMC in 2015. First of all, there are two graveyards on campus and what is now Tate hall ( the boys' dormitory) used to be a hospital. The old cannon memorial hospital is abandoned now and very haunted. It is directly across from the LMC property near the sports field and parking area. I had a few encounters with spirit activity while I attended the college for a year. In Avery dorm, at night around 3:00 am it would become very active. I would always stay up and study with this girl who was a seer, and she said a little girl would follow her around and be in the room with us while we were in the study room studying. I could not see them, but I could feel the presence. The little girl spirit in Avery door was Emily I think, she wasn't malicious in any way, but she would play games and hide stuff from girls in the dorm. I resided on the 3rd floor of Avery dorm, and I felt an awkward presence in my room. I brought my seeing friend to come in, and she said there was a ghost in the corner of my room. My roommate at the time noticed this ghost and mentioned it to me one day, and I just blew it off but then I realized it was there. It freaked my roommate out, and she withdrew from the college. One of my friends who was a senior moved into an apartment that wasn't affiliated with LMC but you had to drive through the campus to get to her apartment. The apartment was excellent at first but after about two weeks she started feeling depressed and was sleeping all the time. I would go to her apartment to do homework and felt a strange presence so I brought my seeing friend with me, and she said there were multiple spirits in my friends' apartment and some of them were negative energies. It took us a whole day to sage the apartment and try to get them all out. My friend decided to move back on campus because she didn't feel comfortable living there alone after that. Another encounter I had was at the town park across from campus. I was intoxicated, and two of my girlfriends decided to walk with me to the park. It was late at night and dark, and they wanted to turn around, but I kept receiving a message in my head telling me to "go to the bridge" ( there was the little creek running through part of the park with a bridge over the top. My two friends wanted to turn around, and I was intoxicated not paying attention, so I kept running towards the bridge. When I was close to the bridge, my friends were far behind me, but insight and both girls were screaming my name in fear and in a panic to come back. My seeing friend saw an apparition of a ghost directly behind me she said the spirit was a pale boy with his skin peeling off. I felt the presence and sprinted back to my friends and linked arms between them both. Then we walked to the Kangaroo gas station (in front of the park) to get sodas and snacks and when we walked in the motion sensor on the door dinged BECAUSE WE WALKED IN. The only people in the store was Me, my two friends, and the clerk working. Less than a minute later, the door dings again as if a person walked through the door. Something came through the door, only, it wasn't a person it was the spirit. We all four looked at each other and the clerk just played it off like everything was normal. I asked my seeing friend if it was in here and she pointed to the corner of the store where it was. My point here is, not only Lees-McRae College is haunted but the town of Banner Elk is as a whole.

We just moved my son into Tate and while all of the stories of Emily include something about an elevator, there is no elevator in Tate. Hmmmm
