Albemarle Opera House
Albemarle, NC 28001
The history of the Albemarle Opera House is quite unique in that it operated from 1908-1915, but has essentially been vacant since then. Stretching across the top floors of multiple buildings on Main Street, it is a town oddity that sometimes opens its doors for tourists/visitors (Starnes Jewlery Store is located beneath it and has anniversary parties). Since the space has been unused for decades, the ghost stories that revolve around it relate to shadowy figures lurking about and a phantom band that can be heard playing ragtime music during the fall season.
