Lydia's Bridge
Jamestown, Greensboro, NC 27282
The story of Lydia's Bridge begins with a verified motoring accident that took the life of a woman named Lydia on December 31st, 1923. The accident occurred on an overpass on High Point Road; an overpass that is no longer in use but is still visible from under a veil of overgrowth. The campfire tale tells of multiple drivers, beginning in 1924, seeing a young woman in a white dress attempting to hitchike home. After stating that she was just at a party and needs a ride home, she offers an address and gets into the vehicle. As the story goes, despite efforts by the driver to speak with her on the ride, she remainds silent and distant. After arriving at the address, the driver gets out of the driver's seat to open the passenger door, only to find that she has vanished. Confused and nervous, the driver knocks on the door of the house and is greeted by Lydia's mother, who shows a picture of Lydia and explains that she died in 1923. Lydia's mother offers a sad smile, stating that the driver hasn't been the first and won't certainly be the last, but she hopes Lydia one day understands what had happened and can finally rest.
